Opening Day Tragedy
Oh my? What happened?
Gunners fan are anticipating a good start to the new season. With an undefeated pre-season, with victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield and with Petr Cech between the goal post, we thought that this is an easy game. West Ham has not had a good record with us. Arsenal also usually do better at home. Arsenal also usually do better on opening day. But then disaster. After the game this is how the league table look like...
We are at the bottom! There goes our perfect season. No repeat of the Invincibles this time.
But don't panic. This is only the first game. Plenty of time and opportunity to catch up, as long as we do not stay in catch up mode all the time.
Passing, teamwork looks good, probably finishing touch is not there. Probably understanding between keeper and defensive unit still not there yet (Cech is probably looking for Terry or Cahill - who can blame him after being with them for like a decade!)
Probably the Boss wants to use this loss as a reason to buy an all out striker (Karim Benzema?)
Thailand Gunners?
Recently I went to Padang Besar and purchase this jersey. It is a Gunners jersey! This is an original jersey (not AAA!), although by a slightly cheaper brand: KOOL
See...
And the logo at close-up.
Doesn't that looks like our logo - use you observation skills and compare!
Shield slightly different...
Cannon has 4 wheels instead of just 2...
2 colour tone split in the middle...
Guns facing right...
So what do you think?
Note: I really like the colour. Although it is not the Gunners colour, it has Kedah FC colours...my local favourite team!
A Day to Remember
The wait is finally over!
With this win Le Professeur finally has a win over The Special One, after 15 attempts.
Now people can easily forget the previous head to head matches between the two.
And to do it at Wembly is even more rewarding as it is an indicator of who is the King of London.
Normally people would not consider the Community Shield to be an important cup, but that game last Sunday is different as both fielded a strong squad. It is not a game about Arsenal vs. Chelsea, or about the 'pride' of London, it is more about Wenger vs. Mourinho.
There have been a lot of exchange of words between the two. Mourinho had labelled Wenger as a voyeur, as a specialist in failure and many more. Recently Mourinho has accused Wenger of winning by spending a lot of money...
But for the past 10 years who actually spend more? Yes, recently Arsenal may seem to spend more with the likes of Ozil and Sanchez, and yes Chelsea seems to be making a lot of money with the sale of David Luis and Juan Mata. But going back into history, Chelsea has purchased a lot more and has sold less compared to Arsenal. Arsenal has sold key players to cover the financing of the Emirates Stadium - Kolo Toure, Adebayor, Nasri, Clichy, Sagna to Man City, Fabregas, Vermaelen and Song to Barcelona, Robin Van Persie to Man United - all for a hefty 'profit'.
And the handshake at the recent Community Shield - actually we can never really know who is avoiding who. Probably both have the common understanding of not to shake hands.
And to spice the rivalry, there have been quite a number of controversial player moves...
Ashley Cole to Chelsea
William Gallas to Arsenal
Fabregas to Chelsea (although not directly but via spending a few seasons at Barcelona)
Petr Cech to Arsenal
Who will do better this season? Let us enjoy the season and see at the end of May next year!
